The first year of a cat’s life is a period of rapid growth. Kittens can triple their weight in just a few weeks. Their nutritional needs are vastly different from adult cats, requiring more protein, fats, and calcium.

Frequency of Feeding

Kittens have tiny stomachs. They need to eat small meals frequently???often 3 to 4 times a day until they are 6 months old. Free-feeding dry food can work, but monitoring intake is important to ensure they are getting enough.

Wet vs. Dry

Exposing kittens to various textures (pate, shreds, kibble) early on prevents them from becoming picky eaters later. Wet food is excellent for hydration, while dry food can help keep teeth clean, though it shouldn’t be the only source of nutrition.
